Nickel(II)-nitrate, hexahydrate

Ni(NO3)2, 6H2O

Quality

Nickel nitrate, i.e. nickel (II) nitrate as hexahydrate with a purity of approx. 98%

Description

Nickel (II) nitrate is a strong oxidizing agent and is basically present in various hydrate forms. The hexahydrate (6H2O) and the anhydrate (in each case as solids) are customary. It is basically hygrospcopic and very soluble in water.

It forms green (to blue-green), deliquescent crystals.

Typical applications are:

  • Production of pure catalyst nickel,
  • Electrolytic nickel plating,
  • Recovering nickel (II) oxide,
  • Dyeing as a pickling agent and
  • Ceramic industry (as a brown pigment).

The preparation is carried out either by dissolving pure nickel or nickel oxide with nitric acid.
