Sustainability

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs ”

“Our Common Future”, World Commission on Environment and Development (of the United Nations), 1987

Global climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today and requires urgent and ambitious action. It is also crucial to protect and regenerate our resources and life-support systems such as forests, water and biodiversity for present and future generations. At the same time, poverty and social inequality are increasing worldwide, which in turn jeopardizes human rights and the foundations of social coexistence.

We are aware that companies like TROPAG have a role to play in overcoming these challenges and bringing about profound change. These are also the key expectations of our stakeholders: All have expressed an increasing interest in sustainability-oriented products and solutions. At the same time, they demand transparent and reliable information that enables them to understand and track sustainability contributions along the value chain.

In line with our tradition of excellence and adaptability, we are facing up to the challenges of the 21st century and are committed to:

  • Reduce the environmental impact of our operations,
  • Promote long-term partnerships with environmentally conscious suppliers,
  • Promote innovation in the sourcing and use of sustainable raw materials.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR)

TROPAG is aware of the importance of key frameworks such as the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the German law on due diligence in the supply chain. These regulations underline the importance of transparency, environmental responsibility and human rights due diligence within global value chains.

Although TROPAG, as a medium-sized company, is not formally directly obliged to comply with all of these regulations, many of our customers are subject to these requirements. This indirectly gives rise to the expectation that TROPAG should be guided by these standards in order to support our customers in fulfilling their compliance obligations.

In 2019, TROPAG introduced a Compliance Management System (CMS) to demonstrate compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines. This system has since been maintained and further developed to reflect the company's proactive approach to compliance with laws and regulations. The CMS serves as the cornerstone for embedding accountability and integrity in TROPAG's business practices and ensures transparency and trust throughout the company.

The most important principles include

  • Protecting the environment
Prioritizing environmentally friendly practices in every decision.
  • Health and safety
We care for the well-being of our employees and our business partners.
  • Social standards
Maintaining and promoting fair and ethical labor practices throughout the value chain.

In collaboration with employees, the management has defined clear objectives and measures aimed at the continuous and sustainable improvement of our environmental, social and compliance standards.

The most important aspects of this initiative include

  • Proactive monitoring
The implementation of these goals and measures is continuously monitored to ensure compliance with our sustainability goals.
  • Immediate action in the event of deviations
In the event of deviations, corrective measures are initiated immediately to effectively address and resolve problems.
  • Commitment to progress
This ongoing process reflects our commitment to achieving higher standards of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in all aspects of our operations.

Ecovadis

“TfS”, or “Together for Sustainability”, is a joint initiative of chemical companies for sustainable supply chains. The initiative was founded in 2011 with the aim of driving the development and implementation of a global program for assessing, auditing and improving sustainable practices within the chemical industry's supply chains.

The TfS approach to verifying sustainability performance consists of two key elements: TfS assessments by EcoVadis and TfS audits by independent auditing companies.

EcoVadis is a provider of global sustainability assessments with currently more than 50,000 companies in the EcoVadis network.

TROPAG has been regularly audited by EcoVadis since 2016.

In September 2025, TROPAG was awarded the silver medal with 71 points, placing it in the top 8% of companies in the industry assessed by Ecovadis.

UN Global Compact

In 2024, TROPAG became a participant in the United Nations Global Compact. With this step, we commit to aligning our business strategy and operations with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour standards, environment, and anti-corruption.

The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate initiative for sustainable and responsible business conduct, bringing together thousands of companies and organizations in more than 160 countries. The initiative aims to foster an inclusive and sustainable global economy, supporting the vision of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Through our participation, we reaffirm our dedication to the following principles:

  • Human Rights: Promoting and respecting internationally recognized human rights within our company and throughout our supply chain.
  • Labour Standards: Ensuring fair and safe working conditions, rejecting discrimination, and prohibiting child and forced labour.
  • Environmental Responsibility: Using natural resources responsibly, reducing environmental impact, and embracing environmentally friendly technologies.
  • Anti-Corruption: Maintaining zero tolerance for all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery, by upholding transparency and ethical business practices.

The implementation of these principles is a key element of our corporate culture. Our objective is to make a positive contribution to society, the environment, and all our stakeholders through responsible business conduct.

By participating in the UN Global Compact, we also support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contribute actively toward a fairer and more sustainable global economy.

Sustainability Report

With our sustainability report, we create transparency about our environmental, social and corporate activities and show how we meet the challenges of a global supply chain - particularly in the international chemicals trade.

The report documents our strategic approaches, progress and goals in the areas of environmental, social and governance (ESG). In doing so, we are guided by recognized reporting standards and also address key topics such as climate impact, supply chain transparency and resource conservation.

As a medium-sized company, we focus on practical measures, credible communication and continuous development. Our aim is to make a measurable contribution to greater sustainability along the entire value chain. This report focuses on ecological sustainability (energy, paper, waste, recycling & upcycling, packaging reduction), economic sustainability and social sustainability (training & further education, equal opportunities, human rights, supplier risk assessment).

Code of Conduct

A Code of Conduct defines fundamental principles for ethical, fair and legally compliant behavior. It forms the basis for trusting and sustainable cooperation.

We attach great importance to integrity, transparency and social responsibility - and expect the same from our suppliers and service providers. For us, compliance with our Code of Conduct is a prerequisite for a successful partnership.
